Why I hate personal search

Many of you have probably already noticed that some search engines (i.e. Google) have started to include personalized search results, I hate this for a couple of reasons. I feel that I am not alone in this or they probably wouldn’t have included the option to opt out of it, which I surely have done right away!

The number one reason I despise personalized search is why in the hell do I want to keep seeing the same site over and over again? There are millions and millions of sites out there, and last time I checked that’s the reason I use a search engine (TO FIND THEM!). If I wanted to see the same couple of sites all of the time why wouldn’t I just save myself some time and bookmark them? Bypass the search engines all together and get the same results without ever discovering anything new.

The second reason I hate personalized search is being that I like to dick around with websites from time to time, it will be that much harder to get them into the top search results if they are all muddled up with sites that people tend to visit anyway. I am sure that it will be possible to still get into the top search results organically but I have a feeling that it’s going to be much more difficult to do. This seems to be great news for the folks that already have popular sites, everyone is already visiting them helping to put there sites up in the top rankings even for keywords that page might be weak on.

I just had to rant about this, because not only does it screw my game up but it irritates me as just a regular search user as well. If you are reading this and have any thoughts or feelings to share on the subject feel free to leave it in the comments or you can send me an email directly. I’m hoping that I am not alone in this personal B.S. Thanks for reading and t.t.f.n.
