When developing content for your website it should have the same theme throughout the whole website. You shouldn’t be running a site for snowboarding and have pages dedicated to teddy bears, that just doesn’t make since and your visitors probably won’t find this type of information useful.
When you are gathering content for your web site either by creating it yourself out outsourcing you will want to make sure that it is all relevant to the main theme of your website. For example if your website is about snowboarding, you may want snowboard reviews, resort reviews, and maybe provide a blog about your latest adventures. This example may not work for your website so you will want to keep these three questions in mind to help you determine what kind of content you need for your website.
What does your company do? Consider what kind of products or services you offer, how to brand your site, and create content that delivers these messages to your customers
What audience will you be targeting? Knowing the demographics of your target audience is crucial, as this will determine how your content will deliver the message to them.
What is your ultimate goal for the site? Will site primarily be an eCommerce site or will you gain your profits from advertising? This may sound very simple, but if your content doesn’t deliver the proper messages to your visitors, they may never know what you are trying to sell.
If you keep these three things in mind while developing content for your website, you will be off to a good start for creating high quality content that is relevant to your sites overall theme.
Also something else to keep in mind is that you may need to change this strategy a little from time to time to cater to the different demographics, for example if you primarily appeal to an older audience, and you want to recruit new younger visitors to your site you will have to change the way you develop your content to attract that type of crowd.
So overall you should keep your website full of relevant content, but you may need to change your strategy for a page or two to attract more visitors to your site, but this is ok as long as the overall message is still being delivered. Before starting your next venture, work out what each page will need and how to appeal to the correct market and you should end up with content that meets the needs of you and your website.
