Starting a new website can be very exciting if not a very busy time for you and your business. However this excitement could easily turn to disappointment, once you figure out that the old saying “build it and they will come” doesn’t hold true for websites on the internet. This is why you’ll have to actively let people know that you are here and get them to visit your “little” place on the web, there are many different ways of doing this but in this article I will cover the link building method of gaining visitors and trust from search engines.
One of the first and easiest ways would be to get links from family and friends, this can be done even if they don’t have their own website, via social networking sites (facebook, myspace, twitter, etc.). If they have a profile on one of these consider emailing them and asking if they could post a link back to your site. On the social note you can also use social bookmarking sites to spread the word, as you may already know about these sites, most people use them to let others know about some great new website or feature that they have found on the web. This of course creates “buzz” about your site, and possibly some backlinks as well.
A second method would be to add a blog to your site, as people (visitors) love fresh content if they like what they read they will be coming back regularly to check out your latest work. As an added bonus search engines also love all this fresh content, and if you keep this fresh content coming will help your ranking in the search engines. If you don’t have a blog on your website don’t worry there are many free software options out there, some are better then others of course, but non the less they will help you deliver the content your visitors crave. Once you have your blog setup you’ll want to develop a regular posting schedule that your visitors will be able to count on, weather this is everyday or once a week just keep the content great and the posts regular. You may also want to spice things up a little by adding visual enhancements (eg. images, videos, etc.).
Press release, you can either write a press release or have one professional written for you. This will help you get the word out there about your website, and you may also be able to develop relationships with local journalists, authors, writers, and editors helping you to keep people informed about your business.
These are just a few of the methods you can use for link building and therefore increasing traffic to your website. By following these tips you will have a much more rewarding experience when starting a new website.
